Boughs Cut and Stacked
We cut boughs from natural trees, from unsheared Christmas trees and from the bottoms of
harvested Christmas Trees. In this field the boughs were harvested from harvested tree
bottoms and unsheared trees. Boughs are stacked in piles along a field road. We like to cut
boughs that have a natural tip so they are better for making wreaths. The boughs are cut no
longer than 24 inches. They are stacked with their natural curve - stacked like you would stack
spoons.
Stacked Boughs
This shows more detail of a bough stack. The boughs are cut no longer than 24 inches and we
try to keep the branch less than 5/8th of an inch in diameter. Boughs are cut and bundled in
the same day to keep them fresher.
Boughs are bundled with the Tractor Bough Press
Our tractor mounted bough press allows us to make heavier bundles that don’t come apart
when moved. We tie the bundles with the thick sisal twine into bundles that weigh between 18
and 45 pounds. (It varies because we have many bough cutters who work under different field
conditions.) After each twine is tied, we cross tie the left over ends to form a handle. When we
ship the boughs, we weigh the bough bundles separately or weigh an entire truck load. We
accept orders as low as 50 pounds.
A finished bundle of boughs
These finished bundles of Fraser Fir boughs are ready to be loaded on a field truck and taken
to our covered storage area. We keep the bundles out of the sun, and stacked tightly together
to stop any drying of the bough materials.
